Question for the hive mind
Feb. 19th, 2011 08:11 amPossibly to be developed into short stories or a novel...
What three foreseeable technologies have the largest potential to change life on Earth in the next 100 years? How will they do so?
I have been exploring a novel idea (still in the not ready to commit anything to paper phase) about how a group like the Callahanians could influence the world through the kind of conversations we have regularly, and one important way would be to develop technologies that change the game. A possibly integral part of this would be the distribution method. Would the technology be open or closed source? Would it be centralized (a la nuclear power) or decentralized (a la wind and solar?). And me being me, I plan on asking, and giving possible answers to, how would it affect women? How would it affect impoverished countries? Who would resist the implementation and why? Would there be significant downsides to adoption of the technology? ETC.
