Handle the Holiday Blues in Three Steps

All of us suffer from the holiday blues now and then. My grandmother died of breast cancer just before Christmas when my mother was pregnant with me. Every year, on the anniversary of her death, my mother took at least part of the day, lit a candle (sometimes many more than one), had a good cry, and told us stories about her mother. For my mom, the holiday blues were an integral part of the season
For a lot of people, the winter holiday season, regardless of their particular faith or philosophy, is an especially difficult part of the year. Today, people celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Yule, Festivus, Kwanzaa, or any one of a dozen other holidays set in the weeks immediately before or after the winter solstice, and when they don’t feel like celebrating, wonder what is wrong with them.
