This weekend was too bloody cold to clean up the garden, so it's put off for next weekend, when the weather is supposed to be better. For the first time in a long while, my entire house is de-cluttered, and I am well on the way to a truly clean and easy to maintain home. This, theoretically, frees up my time for other stuff.

Some of that other stuff includes: Finishing the knitting and crochet projects I have in mind in time for Yuletide gifts, playing WoW once in a blue moon to justify my continuing subscription (once every couple of weeks has been my average lately), and NaNoWriMo!!!!!

I think I'm going to finally write down a story that's been bouncing around in my head for a very long time... actually, the first in a series of stories in a universe I call Nextover KC, which is an alternate Kansas City right next to this one where all the creatures of faerie retreated during the Age of Enlightenment (actually, they retreated to the Universe, but found their way to the New World with other European immigrants). The main characters are a troll named Debris whose single mother owns a house cleaning business, a dryad named Erin who plans to be an architect when she grows up, a half dragon (whose mother is a retired princess) named Alex who is (like all juvenile dragons and half dragons) of indeterminate gender (sie will gain gender of hir choice at adulthood, or not), and a human who was raised on the Nextover side of the Passage named Adam. These guys are actually going to high school in "our" Kansas City as part of an exchange program, and I see them as kind of like Nancy Drew and her buddies, in that they do stuff pretty independently and romance is far less on their minds than their futures. The first story will be dealing with a suburban gang that has started terrorizing a neighborhood where they have been going to school, and building on their backstories.

Also, I'm going to try to re-start my attitude of gratitude, as well as trying to write something insightful at least twice a week.

For a practice attitude of gratitude:
1. I am grateful that I have a secure job and a solid roof over my head even in this tough economy
2. I am grateful that not only am I healthy, I've been getting healthier lately as I've been watching what I eat, getting plenty of rest, and de-stressing in the last six months
3. I am grateful for my therapist (who I finished with last week) for getting decades of nasty psychic crap up and out of me.
4. I am grateful that we have a President and Congress that despite their flaws and despite the appalling behavior of the peanut gallery have made strides in the right direction this year, turning the US ship closer to justice and prosperity and equity, and even peace.
