I’m new to this giveaway via website thing, so I’m curious about what sorts of prizes you all might be interested in. I know an Amazon Gift Card is always a good fallback giveaway for a literate crowd, but other ideas are appreciated.

Please leave comments with ideas for giveaways below or on my Facebook page.  My budget is pretty small for this sort of thing right now… I’m thinking of making it a regular Saturday or Sunday feature with a value of between $25 and $50.

I want these giveaways to be items people really want and need. I live a fortunate life, and want to share that fortune with others (and no, I don’t mean financially fortunate, I mean full of joy).

Books? Yarn? Gift Certificates to various online retailers (ideas welcome)? Donations to favorite charities in your name? Handmade goodies (does Etsy have a giftcard program? — yes! yes, they do!).  What kind of giveaway do you want?

As a note, I don’t intend to necessarily restrict myself to affiliate programs, and I don’t intend to coordinate giveaways with retailers for promotion of their goods. These giveaways are my idea, and they come from my heart and pocketbook (and my bookcase and yarn stash and fabric stash). So feel free to come up with ideas that don’t involve traditional sources or prizes.

On another note, another tradition I plan to start tomorrow is to call attention to a noteworthy cause or individual deserving of micro gifting or a micro loan. I plan to work with existing organizations for these sorts of things as much as possible, and would appreciate it if others could make me aware of such organizations other than Kiva, MicroGrants Indiegogo, and Heifer International.

So that’s all, folks. Like my Facebook Page and share this post around to participate in sharing joy and making someone’s day.

Image representing Zappos as depicted in Crunc...

I have a fetish for boots. If I had my way, I’d have dozens of pairs in all shapes and sizes – but I have a budget and other obligations, so mostly I just fantasize (except of course for that six or seven or eleven pairs I managed to sneak in).*

At least once a year I celebrate “Boot Day” which is on the first paycheck after Christmas, during which I make my boot purchase for the year. Sometimes I buy dress boots for work, sometimes winter boots, or hiking boots, or booties for jeans, or even rain boots. I buy them (usually) with heels I can walk in (I have a bad knee) and as good quality as I can afford, sometimes ‘top dollars’, and other years ‘sale rack’.

The Sims 3 (console video game)

The Sims 3 in my Life

I have a proposition for a new Sims 3 expansion I would like to call Sims 3 Real Life. I love The Sims 3. In any given month, I “waste” hours upon hours creating families and the homes they live in, designing their clothes, and getting frustrated because my trusty laptop, now getting into its fifth year, is struggling to play it.

Along with all of the expansions from Electronic Arts, I play with the NRaas suite of mods, and almost never without Master Controller and Story Progression from that suite because it adds so much to the game.

Smart Phones

Smart Phones as Swiss Army Knife

Smart phones are an amazing investment, and even if you’re down and out and broke, if you can find a phone and plan you can afford, buy one.  They are a lifeline, an entertainment center, and a business office in one.

Every now and then someone starts that old rant about the ‘Obamaphones’ again. Part of me wants to ask whether that is kind of like a homophone, except that it sounds like the President. The other part of me wants to start a pedantic rant about how, no, that particular entitlement far predates the 45th President of the United States. But that’s neither here nor there.
